The
farmhouse “Borgo San Benedetto”, located inside
the ancient Fortress walls, from it takes the name, offers its
guests a completely renovated structure totally preserving the
traditional Umbrian style.
The
first documents witnessing the existence of the Fortress date
back to the XIIth century, although it is thought to be still
more ancient. The Fortress had initially been built as a defence
of the nearby “San Benedetto” monastery (where San
Francis from Assisi stayed for a period).
In the XIVth century, during the fights with the Commune of
Perugia, the Fortress was given to the Commune of Gubbio. In
the XVth century it became the general headquarter of the Captain
Nicolò Fortebraccio. In the XVIIth century it became
a private property.
The farmhouse is situated along the route leading to Saint Francis
Pilgrimage
It offers a breathtaking wide view on the Appennines in Umbria,
Marche and Tuscany.
Guests can enjoy the magnificent sights of the mounts Fumaiolo,
Bove, Catria and Nerone. from the three different regions.
It is surrounded by a wild unspoilt area famous for typical
wood products among which porcini mushrooms, white and black
truffles, blackberries, sour black cherries etc. The whole area
is suitable for the hunting activity and particularly ideal
for long walks, mountain bike itineraries, horse trekking,
Quads ( to be locally rented).
The farmhouse is only 5 minutes’ drive from the cosy and
picturesque village of Pietralunga and it’s within easy
reach from historic and artistic towns such as Gubbio, Montone,
Città di Castello, SanSepolcro.
In only 30 minutes’ drive guests can reach Perugia, Arezzo,
Assisi, Fabriano and enjoy outstanding natural attractions such
as the Frasassi Grottoes and Lake Trasimeno.
The building offers a comfortable and pleasant accommodation
to meet the needs of the most demanding guests. Every flat is
provided with kitchenette, bedrooms with bath and shower, independent
entrance and wide outdoor areas.
The farmhouse of “Borgo San Benedetto”, known for
the rearing of donkeys from Abruzzo, offers typical products
such as the “Visner” a delicious liqueur made with
sour black cherries.
